Guwahati: The Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully conducted the statutory inspection for commissioning of the railway electrification works between Araria, Araria Court, and Bibiganj on October 30. Covering 67.186 Route Kilometres (RKM) and 82.698 Track Kilometres (TKM) under the Katihar Division, the inspection marks a major step toward introducing electric train services in the region.
During the inspection, all safety and technical parameters were thoroughly verified, including Over Head Equipment (OHE) sectioning, bonding, and earthing systems. The OHE was energized at 25 kV, and current collection trials were successfully conducted at a maximum sectional speed of 100 kmph, confirming the system’s readiness for full-scale electric operations.

This follows the earlier completion of the Thakurganj–Bibiganj electrification in June 2025, creating a continuous electrified corridor from Araria to Galgalia. The milestone strengthens connectivity and enhances railway infrastructure across North Bihar.
The electrification of the stretch is expected to deliver multiple benefits—faster and more efficient train operations, reduced travel time, lower costs, and minimized dependence on diesel traction. It also advances Indian Railways’ mission to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2030, showcasing NFR’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transport development.
