Imphal, April 25: Security forces have stepped up counter-insurgency and anti-narcotics operations across Manipur, leading to the recovery of a cache of arms and explosives in Chandel district and the arrest of three individuals with a large quantity of suspected heroin in Churachandpur district.
According to official inputs, a search operation conducted on April 24 in the Khumkot village area under Molcham Police Station in Chandel district resulted in the seizure of multiple weapons and communication equipment. The recovered items included four single bore rifles, four improvised “Pompi” firearms, seven Pompi shells, three grenades along with a detonator, and five Baofeng radio sets with chargers. Authorities suspect the materials were stockpiled for unlawful activities, and investigations are ongoing to determine their origin and intended use.
In a separate operation carried out on April 23 in Bolkot under Singngat Police Station in Churachandpur district, security personnel apprehended three individuals identified as Nengmuanlal, Ginlamthang Guite and Hangkhanlian. The first two are residents of M Buangmun village in Singngat, while the third hails from Chakarpur in Gurgaon, Haryana.
During the operation, forces seized 474 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 5.43 kilograms, along with a four-wheeler vehicle believed to have been used in transporting the contraband. Officials said the seized narcotics carry substantial value in the illegal drug market.
Cases have been registered in connection with both incidents, and further investigation is underway to examine possible links to organised networks involved in arms trafficking and drug smuggling in the region.
