Army Chief Reviews Security in Sikkim, Meets CM Tamang and Honours Veteran Achievers

Gangtok: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi conducted a detailed review of security preparedness in Sikkim during his visit to the state’s forward areas, where he also met Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang to discuss national security priorities and civil–military cooperation. The Army Chief was accompanied by senior commanders, including the GOC-in-C Eastern Command, GOC Trishakti Corps and GOC Black Cat Division, for the high-level engagement held at the Chief Minister’s official residence.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between the civil administration and the armed forces, improve welfare initiatives for Sikkim’s veterans and assess ongoing progress under the Ranbhoomi Darshan programme. CM Tamang appreciated the Army’s steadfast role in securing the border state and said Sikkim’s government and people remain committed to supporting civil defence and enhancing military-civil fusion in sensitive frontier areas.

As part of his visit, General Dwivedi travelled to frontline posts under the Black Cat Division, where he was briefed on operational readiness, capability development and the challenges posed by Sikkim’s demanding high-altitude terrain. The Army said he reviewed ongoing preparedness measures across the sensitive border belt and was updated on new technologies being deployed in the region. The COAS also examined Indian-made drones currently used by troops for surveillance and operational duties, noting that these platforms are improving real-time situational awareness for personnel in forward locations. He interacted with soldiers stationed in harsh terrain and commended their professionalism, resilience and dedication.
