Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that the Election Commission of India (ECI) acted unilaterally during its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Citing official ECI documents from June 2025, Khandu stated Monday that the voter revision exercise was ordered with the unanimous approval of the full commission.
The statements address a growing political conflict over the integrity of the electoral revision process. Gandhi recently alleged widespread irregularities in the SIR exercise and publicly demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The opposition’s continued scrutiny of the poll panel has turned the standard administrative procedure into a major national dispute between the Congress and the ruling BJP.
In response to the accusations, the ECI explicitly clarified that differing views expressed during internal deliberations do not constitute separate or unilateral decisions. Backing the commission, Khandu emphasized that these official records provide a definitive institutional answer, proving the voter roll revisions were firmly a collective decision rather than the actions of a single individual.
