Arunachal Pradesh has commissioned the 132 kV Miao-Namsai transmission line, a major power infrastructure project aimed at strengthening electricity supply and improving grid reliability in Changlang district and neighbouring areas, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced on July 29.
The nearly 41-kilometre transmission line links Namsai, Diyun and Miao and has been developed under the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System (CSST&DS), a flagship initiative focused on upgrading power infrastructure in the Northeast.
Sharing the development on social media, Mein, who also oversees the power and hydropower departments, described the commissioning as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to build a modern, resilient and future-ready electricity network.
He said the new transmission line would substantially improve power reliability in Changlang district and surrounding areas by strengthening grid connectivity, reducing dependence on long radial transmission networks and supporting the region’s increasing energy requirements.
Highlighting the progress of the broader infrastructure programme, Mein said 91 of the 239 planned components under the scheme have already been commissioned, reflecting steady advancement towards a stronger and more dependable power system across the state.
The deputy chief minister congratulated the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), the state power department, district administrations, executing agencies and other stakeholders involved in completing the project.
The CSST&DS was approved by the Centre to strengthen transmission and distribution networks in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The scheme is designed to improve grid connectivity, ensure reliable electricity supply, reduce transmission losses and support socio-economic development in remote and border regions.
Implemented by PGCIL in coordination with the state government, the programme includes the construction of transmission lines, substations and associated distribution infrastructure to modernise the power sector.
Officials said the scheme is scheduled for completion by 2027 and is expected to significantly enhance power availability, operational reliability and the integration of Arunachal Pradesh’s expanding electricity network with the national grid.
