Arunachal Pradesh Sericulture Department Conducts Farmer Training on Cocoon Technology and Bee Keeping in Roing

Roing, May 14: The Department of Sericulture Zone-V under Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh organised a farmers’ awareness-cum-training programme on pre and post cocoon technology and bee keeping at the Muga Farm in Jia on Tuesday.

The programme, held in Roing, saw participation from several farmers from Jia and adjoining areas, along with two progressive farmers from East Siang district.

The awareness and training initiative was funded by the Directorate of Sericulture under the Government of Arunachal Pradesh as part of efforts to promote sericulture activities in the state during the 2025–26 period.

Training sessions were conducted by departmental officials, including Deputy Director of Sericulture Dagmo Riba, Zonal Officer of Sericulture Zone-V Talong Tadeng and Sericulture Development Officer Ani Lego.

During the programme, farmers were trained on pre-cocoon sericulture practices, post-cocoon silk processing methods, bee keeping techniques and the economic potential associated with these activities.

Addressing the participants, Dagmo Riba said selected farmers would receive additional support and specialised training on silkworm and bee rearing. He added that the government would also extend assistance in the form of equipment and plantation support for silkworm host plants.

Talong Tadeng and Ani Lego urged the participants to make practical use of the technological knowledge shared during the programme to create sustainable income sources and employment opportunities in rural areas.

Progressive farmers Takir Taloh of Ledum village and Mijing Kening of Seram village also shared their experiences and practical insights on cocoon processing and bee keeping, highlighting the economic benefits and income potential these activities can offer to farming communities.
