Jorhat/Tezpur: Festive fervour has gripped Chandrakanta Handique Bhawan, the central office of Asam Sahitya Sabha, as preparations intensify for its centenary celebration scheduled on December 2 and 3. The organising committee is ready to welcome office-bearers, members and dignitaries from across Assam and abroad.
Principal Secretary Debojit Bora informed in a press note that the celebration will begin on December 2 at 8:45 a.m. with the hoisting of the Sabha’s main flag by president Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami. As part of the centenary tribute, 100 distinguished citizens from Jorhat, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli and Golaghat will hoist 100 flags simultaneously. The event will be accompanied by the rendition of Asom Sangeet by 100 members of ‘Hepah’, followed by the Sabha’s invocation song performed by 100 artistes of Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha. The event’s theme song Chandrakanta, written by Dhrubajyoti Rajkhowa, will be presented by 100 female artistes. Rehearsals are underway at the Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.
To mark the occasion, a cultural programme titled Adhibas will be held on December 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring artistes from Jorhat and neighbouring district branches.
The Smriti Tarpan ceremony, scheduled for December 2, will be led by Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha president Mahendra Hazarika and former president Nalinibala Hazarika, with participation from various committee members and representatives. Later, a general meeting of life members and patrons will be held under the presidentship of Dr. Goswami, inaugurated by Dr. Jiten Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University. Distinguished guests will include Dr. Hitesh Deka of Nagaon University and Dr. Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar of Assam Women’s University.
