Entertainment, April 13: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle will be laid to rest with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on April 13, following her demise at the age of 92.
Among those who paid tribute, Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep sorrow, recalling the emotional connection her songs held for millions. In a heartfelt message, he lamented her passing, saying her voice had become an inseparable part of people’s lives and memories, adding that her legacy would endure forever.
Pema Khandu also mourned her death, stating that she had enriched India’s cultural heritage beyond measure and that her songs would remain eternal. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein expressed shock and grief, describing her life as one dedicated to music and passion, with melodies that would continue to resonate with generations.
Bhosle passed away on April 12 at a private hospital in Mumbai due to multi-organ failure, bringing an end to an illustrious career spanning over seven decades. A recipient of prestigious honours such as the Padma Vibhushan and Maharashtra Bhushan, she was widely regarded as one of India’s most versatile and celebrated playback singers.
Her mortal remains were brought to her residence in Lower Parel, where the public will be allowed to pay their last respects from Monday morning. The funeral is scheduled to take place at 4 pm.
Fondly known as “Ashatai,” Asha Bhosle leaves behind an enduring musical legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
