Sources linked to the publication suggested that the newspaper’s editorial stance may have triggered resentment among certain sections, although the exact motive behind the attack remains unconfirmed. This is the second such incident involving the newspaper in recent weeks. On March 25, a vehicle carrying copies of Asomiya Pratidin was reportedly intercepted in Sivasagar, where miscreants seized and burned the newspapers after halting the vehicle.
The back-to-back incidents have sparked concerns over press freedom and the safety of media establishments in the region. Authorities of the Lakhimpur edition have lodged an FIR at the Khelmati Police Outpost, seeking a thorough investigation. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from the public, with calls for swift action against those responsible and stronger measures to ensure the safety of journalists and media institutions.
