The Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department (AHVD), Government of Assam, recently held a crucial high-level review meeting to address the escalating situation concerning the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) across the state. Convened at the AHVD headquarters, the meeting included key senior departmental officials and featured Dr. N. Kalita, the Vice Chancellor of the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU), who was present as an invited expert. The primary focus of the deliberation was a detailed evaluation of the current extent of the ASF outbreak and the subsequent identification of stringent precautionary measures necessary to effectively halt its further transmission.
During the extensive discussions, the AHVD affirmed its comprehensive readiness to extend all required support to the affected sector, with a specific commitment to launching mass awareness campaigns designed to mitigate the disease’s overall impact on the vital piggery industry. Officials underscored the critical and immediate need for pig farmers and rearers to promptly implement essential biosecurity practices on their farms to successfully prevent any new infections from taking hold.
Furthermore, attendees collectively emphasized the indispensable nature of coordinated on-ground action. They strongly urged field officials and frontline personnel to engage in collaborative efforts to ensure the widespread dissemination of accurate information and the disciplined implementation of all recommended protocols at the grassroots level. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to significantly strengthen the collaboration between the AHVD and AVFU.
