Assam Among Top Three States in School Internet Connectivity Growth, Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, June 3: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 2 highlighted the state’s emergence as one of the top three performers in India in terms of growth in school internet connectivity, describing the achievement as a reflection of the broader transformation taking place in Assam’s education sector.

Sharing the development on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said the recognition by the Government of India underscores the substantial progress made in strengthening educational infrastructure across the state during the past decade.

Sarma stated that the improvement in internet connectivity is part of a wider advancement in several critical areas of school infrastructure. He noted that key indicators such as electricity availability, computer access, girls’ sanitation facilities and internet connectivity have all registered significant gains over the years.

According to the Chief Minister, these developments have been driven by sustained efforts to modernise educational institutions and create better learning environments for students across Assam, particularly in rural and underserved regions.

He emphasised that improved digital infrastructure is helping expand educational opportunities and enabling schools to access modern teaching resources, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and technology-driven learning ecosystem.

Highlighting the broader impact of these initiatives, Sarma said the progress achieved in recent years demonstrates the state’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and ensuring that students have access to essential facilities required for quality learning.

The Chief Minister added that the advancements made so far represent only the beginning of a larger effort to further improve educational infrastructure and enhance learning outcomes across Assam.

The recognition comes amid continued initiatives by the Centre and the state government to expand digital connectivity in schools, bridge the digital divide and equip educational institutions with the infrastructure needed to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital era.
