Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced an intensified organisational push ahead of the 2026 Assembly Elections, framing the upcoming poll cycle as a decisive moment for the state’s political and cultural direction.
In a press statement issued from the party headquarters in Guwahati, BJP Media Panellist Dilip Kumar Sharma highlighted what he described as the state government’s “historic measures” under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The release cited initiatives such as the pursuit of Classical Language status for Assamese, efforts to bring the historic Vrindavani Vastra to the state, establishment of new universities including Sukafa University, and heritage-focused projects such as the proposed statue of Lachit Borphukan in Jorhat.
The party also underscored the government’s actions on land recovery drives, child marriage prevention, and border vigilance. According to the statement, more than 1,30,000 bighas of encroached land have been cleared during the current administration.
