Guwahati, June 4: Political circles in Assam are witnessing heightened speculation ahead of the much-anticipated expansion of the state cabinet, scheduled to be held on June 5 at Jyoti Bishnu Kala Mandir in Guwahati.
The swearing-in ceremony is set to begin at 12:45 pm, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expected to induct new ministers into the Council of Ministers as part of a major reshuffle and expansion exercise.
Although the government has not made any official announcement regarding the names, an unconfirmed list has circulated in political and administrative circles, triggering widespread discussion.
According to sources, the likely inductees include Ashok Singhal, Ranoj Pegu, Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Bimal Bora, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Ashwini Rai Sarkar, Bolin Chetia, Tuliram Ronghang, Sushanta Borgohain, Mayur Borgohain and Dharmeswar Konwar.
Sources also suggest that either Krishnendu Paul or Rajdeep Roy may be considered for a cabinet berth, while one among Padma Hazarika and Bhupen Borah is also under consideration.
The cabinet expansion is being closely watched as it comes at a politically significant time ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
However, the final composition of the Council of Ministers will be confirmed only after the official announcement during the oath-taking ceremony on June 5. Senior BJP leaders, alliance partners, legislators and government officials are expected to attend the event.
