Assam Cinema Hall Owners Deny Ticket Hike Allegations, Suspend Hindi Films in Support of Zubeen Garg’s ‘Roi Roi Binale’

Guwahati: The All Assam Cinema Hall Owners’ Association (ACHOA) has denied allegations of ticket price hikes during the screening of Zubeen Garg’s latest Assamese film Roi Roi Binale, while announcing a temporary suspension of Hindi films across the state in support of regional cinema.

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Apollo Grand in Guwahati, ACHOA clarified that ticket prices remain unchanged, countering claims circulating on social media.

“We are not trying to do business using Zubeen Garg’s name. Ticket prices remain the same. Only the number of shows has been adjusted,” an ACHOA spokesperson said. “If any hall has independently increased prices, that is their decision — the association will not be responsible.”

In a show of solidarity with Assamese cinema, ACHOA declared:

“As long as Roi Roi Binale continues to run, no Hindi films will be screened in Assam’s cinema halls.”

The association also criticised the dominance of non-Assamese lobbies in the state’s film distribution and revenue-sharing system, claiming that local filmmakers have long faced unequal treatment.

“The profit-sharing system between Hindi and Assamese films remains unfair due to a lack of coordination among Assamese producers. This must change if Assamese cinema is to survive,” members stated.

Expressing optimism, ACHOA said Roi Roi Binale represents more than just a film—it embodies the cultural and emotional identity of Assam.

“Zubeen’s earlier films were watched twice by fans; this one will be watched four times. It will create history—no record will surpass it,” they added.

The association concluded by emphasising that its motive is not to disrupt the film business, but to protect Assamese cinema from commercial decline. ACHOA also announced plans for further consultations with producers and distributors to strengthen regional film policies and ensure fair competition in the industry.
