Silchar: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will embark on a crucial two-day tour of Barak Valley on December 6 and 7, with a series of public programmes scheduled across the districts of Cachar and Hailakandi. The visit will focus on women’s empowerment under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) and key infrastructure development in the region.
Dr Sarma will arrive in Silchar on December 6 before heading to Hailakandi, where he will attend an MMUA cheque distribution ceremony at the Hailakandi Mela Field at 11:15 AM. He will later return to Cachar to participate in another MMUA cheque distribution programme at Borjalenga Field under the Dholai constituency at 1:15 PM. A large turnout is expected as beneficiaries receive financial support under the flagship scheme.

On December 7, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for the long-awaited Madhura Bridge at 10:30 AM. Considered a major infrastructural milestone for Barak Valley, the proposed bridge is expected to significantly improve inter-district connectivity, reduce travel time and encourage economic growth. Dr Sarma will then proceed to Udharbond to attend another MMUA cheque distribution event at D.N.H.S. Field at 11:30 AM. The Chief Minister will return to Guwahati later in the afternoon, concluding his two-day visit to Barak Valley.
