Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday began a two-day brainstorming session with senior police officials to review the state’s law and order situation and discuss key challenges facing the police force. The meeting, being held at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy (LBPA) in Dergaon, is focusing on issues including drug trafficking, crimes against women and children, and police recruitment. Speaking ahead of the meeting, Sarma said senior police officials would deliberate on these issues over the next two days and consider necessary measures to strengthen policing in the state.

The Chief Minister said Assam Police would adopt a stricter approach, particularly in cases related to drug trafficking and crimes against women and children. He expressed hope that the brainstorming session would lead to positive measures to further strengthen the police force. The meeting marks Sarma’s first interaction with the state’s senior superintendents of police (SSPs) since he returned to power for a second consecutive term in May this year. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister attended the passing-out parade of 403 police personnel at the LBPA. The batch included 32 Deputy Superintendents of Police (Probationers) and 371 constables of the communication branch.
Congratulating the newly trained personnel, Sarma said their passing-out marked the beginning of a new chapter of dedicated service to the people of Assam. He highlighted the national recognition earned by the LBPA for its training programmes, noting that the academy has trained personnel from Assam as well as Goa and Manipur. The newly recruited personnel have also received training in areas such as cybercrime and digital fraud. Sarma inspected the parade and presented awards to personnel who performed exceptionally during their training.
