Guwahati: In a major step towards improving safety and enhancing rail-road connectivity, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the construction of a vital Road Over Bridge (ROB) in lieu of Level Crossing Gate No. ST-33 at Chaparmukh. The bridge was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the presence of senior railway officials and dignitaries. With its commissioning, Level Crossing No. ST-33 has been permanently closed.
The newly inaugurated ROB connects Raha (NH-27) with Chaparmukh Railway Junction and extends towards West Karbi Anglong, significantly improving mobility across the region. Constructed at a cost of Rs 84.6 crore, the bridge spans 1,179 meters and is designed to handle heavy daily traffic efficiently.

The project is expected to benefit over 20 lakh commuters and facilitate the smooth passage of nearly 16 lakh vehicles annually, eliminating delays and reducing accident risks associated with unmanned crossings.
With this, a total of five out of eight targeted level crossings have been successfully replaced with ROBs under the Lumding Division, marking a key milestone in NFR’s ongoing safety enhancement drive.
NFR officials reaffirmed their commitment to expanding such infrastructure, stating that more Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) are being constructed across its jurisdiction to ensure safer and faster transportation for both passengers and freight.
