Diphu: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday dedicated the state-of-the-art Diphu Cancer Centre to the people of Diphu, marking a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services in the hill district. Constructed at an estimated cost of ₹270 crore, the advanced cancer treatment facility is expected to greatly enhance access to specialised oncology care for patients in Karbi Anglong and neighbouring regions. The centre is equipped with modern medical infrastructure aimed at providing comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment.
With the establishment of the cancer centre, patients from the region will no longer have to travel long distances to cities such as Guwahati for specialised cancer treatment. The facility is expected to make advanced and affordable healthcare services more accessible to people in the hill districts. The initiative is part of the Government of Assam’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand specialised medical services across the state.

During the programme, the Chief Minister also announced plans to establish a new BSc Nursing College in Diphu. The proposed institution is expected to boost medical education and help produce trained healthcare professionals, further strengthening the healthcare system in the region. The new cancer centre is anticipated to play a crucial role in early diagnosis and treatment, offering hope and improved healthcare support to thousands of patients across Karbi Anglong and nearby areas.
