Assam CM launches distribution of cheques under MMUA in Doomdooma LAC

Dr. Sarma lays foundation stones for projects worth Rs. 183 crore

Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today ceremonially launched the distribution of cheques to 13,822 women Self-Help Group (SHG) members under the Mukhyamantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) at Rupai Higher Secondary School playground in Doomdooma LAC, Tinsukia district. The beneficiaries include 12,784 women from rural areas and 1,038 from urban areas.

Addressing a massive public gathering, Dr. Sarma emphasized that the Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan is not a vote-centric initiative but a mission to empower women entrepreneurs through a seed capital of ₹10,000 each. He said the scheme aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming three crore Indian women into Lakhpati Baideus.

Highlighting Assam’s progress, Dr. Sarma noted that over eight lakh women have already become Lakhpati Baideus, earning above ₹1 lakh annually through small businesses. He cited success stories such as Mamu Dutta of Sitalpur SHG, who earns ₹2.4 lakh from her clothing and grocery business, and Ritu Devi of Janakalyan SHG, who makes ₹1.8 lakh through dairy farming.

The Chief Minister urged women to use their seed capital wisely—either collectively within SHGs or individually—to build sustainable livelihoods. Those demonstrating effective utilization will qualify for additional assistance of ₹25,000 and ₹50,000 in later phases.

Dr. Sarma also highlighted other welfare measures: expansion of Orunodoi coverage in Doomdooma, ₹250 LPG subsidy from January, free college admissions, bicycles for Class IX girls, and financial aid under Nijut Moina. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holistic development through employment, land rights for tea garden workers, and education infrastructure.
