Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 3 chaired a high-level meeting to review the comprehensive preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming two-day visit to the state, scheduled to begin on December 20. The Chief Minister stated that the visit is expected to “herald a new wave of development” for Assam, featuring multiple significant events in both Guwahati and Namrup.
Announcing the state’s readiness, Chief Minister Sarma posted on X, “Assam is all set to welcome Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji on 20th December as he will herald a new wave of development in the state. Reviewed preparations for his welcome and the marquee events which will take place during the visit.”
The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes the inauguration of the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and the unveiling of a statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, at Borjhar. Following this, Modi is scheduled to address a public meeting in Guwahati. In a project focused on industrial development, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a new brownfield ammonia-urea complex in Namrup, which is projected to have an annual production capacity of $12.7$ lakh metric tonnes. A public meeting will also be held in Namrup as part of the programme.
According to an official release, the Chief Minister took stock of all arrangements for both the Guwahati and Namrup events, issuing directives to senior officials to ensure their smooth conduct and successful execution. Key attendees at the meeting included Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, alongside other senior officials. Minister of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Bimal Bora, BJP MLA from Naharkatia Taranga Gogoi, the district commissioners of Kamrup and Dibrugarh, and Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited managing director S. P. Mahanta participated virtually.
