Assam CM Swearing-In Likely on May 12 as NDA Prepares for New Government Formation

Guwahati, May 6: Assam is set to witness the swearing-in of its next Chief Minister after May 11, with May 12 emerging as the most likely date, according to outgoing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The timeline has been influenced by the availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been invited to attend the ceremony and is expected to be free only after May 11.

The development follows Sarma’s resignation after the National Democratic Alliance secured a decisive mandate in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections. The move formally initiated the process for the formation of a new government in the state.

Sarma indicated that the final decision regarding the composition of the Council of Ministers will rest with the incoming Chief Minister. He noted that internal consultations within the ruling alliance are expected before the cabinet is finalised.

With the BJP-led alliance holding a comfortable majority, attention has now shifted to the selection of the legislative party leader and the subsequent formation of the new government, ahead of the anticipated oath-taking ceremony next week.
