Assam CM Welcomes BPF Back into NDA Fold

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warmly welcomed the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) as it officially rejoined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on October 18. The BPF’s return to the ruling coalition marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

The BPF’s decision to rejoin the NDA comes after the party’s impressive performance in the recent Bodoland Territorial Council elections, where it won 28 out of 40 seats. Charan Boro, a two-term MLA from Mazbat constituency, was sworn in as the new Transport Minister in the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary.

Boro’s induction into the Cabinet signals a potential generational shift in leadership within the BPF. Despite being a relatively young leader, Boro has been entrusted with the ministerial position, highlighting the party’s focus on youth representation in governance. A graduate of Cotton College and a postgraduate from Gauhati University, Boro is regarded as one of the promising young leaders of the BPF.

The Chief Minister assured that the coalition will continue to focus on peace and development in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). No new election strategy has been finalized yet, and consultations with all parties, including the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), will take place ahead of the upcoming December 26 elections
