Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu on November 3 confirmed that the state government is actively considering a proposal to include the biography of the late singer Zubeen Garg in the school syllabus.
“I think the board is the competent authority to make a decision. SCERT is also examining it because it will have to be in conformity with the national curriculum framework. Something will be done. We’ll do it,” Dr Pegu stated, indicating that the process is underway.
The proposal, which has received widespread public support, aims to celebrate Zubeen Garg’s artistic legacy and introduce students to his contributions to Assamese music, cinema, and culture.
Meanwhile, reacting to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s recent remarks on various state issues, the minister launched a sharp counterattack, suggesting that Gogoi’s conduct in Parliament raises questions about his affiliations. “The kind of questions he (Gaurav Gogoi) asks in Parliament, that itself reveals, that itself gives an indication that he has some Pakistan connections. We do not have to go for any other things. Just go through the kind of questions he asks in Parliament,” Dr Pegu said.
The minister’s dual statement — combining a cultural announcement with a political counterpoint — has sparked discussion across the state, drawing attention both for the government’s educational initiative and the intensifying political rhetoric in Assam.
