Assam Emerging as Diversified Industrial Hub Beyond Tea, Says CM Sarma

Guwahati, March 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, March 2, said the state is moving beyond its traditional identity as a tea-producing region and rapidly transforming into a diversified industrial hub.

In a post on X, Sarma remarked that while Assam continues to be known for its tea, its industrial base has significantly broadened in recent years. He noted that the state’s footprint now spans sectors ranging from semiconductors and hydrocarbons to manufacturing and hospitality, reflecting a shift toward a more varied economic structure.

Emphasising the state’s growth trajectory, the Chief Minister highlighted the role of the Advantage Assam initiative in positioning Assam as one of India’s emerging industrial destinations. He described the current developments as the beginning of a larger industrial transformation.

According to Sarma, the government is actively driving investments through policy reforms, infrastructure expansion and sustained outreach to investors, aimed at accelerating economic growth across sectors.

With its strategic location in the Northeast, enhanced connectivity and proximity to Southeast Asian markets, Assam is drawing increasing investor interest. The state is also focusing on skill development and employment generation to ensure that industrial expansion translates into broad-based and inclusive economic progress.
