Assam’s ex-servicemen have contributed Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support relief and rehabilitation measures for people affected by the recent floods across the state, reaffirming their commitment to public service beyond military duty.
The cheque was presented to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma by a delegation of veterans comprising Brigadier Polash Chowdhury (Retd), Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi (Retd), and Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita (Retd).
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Chowdhury said the contribution reflected the veterans’ sense of responsibility towards the people of Assam during a difficult period. He expressed confidence that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund would help ensure timely assistance reached flood-affected communities.
He also noted that several ex-servicemen from the state have voluntarily joined relief operations in coordination with the civil administration in different flood-hit areas.
Receiving the contribution, Chief Minister Sarma thanked the veterans for their generous support and appreciated their continued dedication to serving society. He said the donation would inspire more individuals and organisations to come forward and contribute to the ongoing relief efforts.
The veterans’ fraternity also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting disaster response, community welfare and development initiatives across Assam.
