Assam Expanding Use of Space Technology to Improve Governance, Says Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 3 said the state government is making increasing use of science and technology to tackle long-standing developmental challenges and enhance the efficiency of governance.

Emphasising the contribution of the Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC), the Chief Minister said the organisation has implemented more than 60 projects over the past five years, covering areas such as mapping, forecasting and geospatial applications.

Sarma noted that these initiatives have enabled the government to adopt a more evidence-based approach to decision-making, planning and the delivery of public services.

According to the Chief Minister, the projects undertaken by ASSAC are designed to harness scientific tools and space-based technologies to improve governance while developing sustainable solutions to developmental and environmental issues across the state.

The government views the growing application of geospatial and scientific technologies as an important component of its efforts to modernise administration and strengthen long-term planning for Assam’s development.
