Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Sunday unveiled a statue of Biswa Mahabir Chilarai and inaugurated Chilarai Bhawan at Patiladaha in Bongaigaon district in the presence of Kamatapur Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member and MLA Jibesh Ray.
The statue and community hall have been developed under the patronage of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council.
Addressing the gathering, Baruah described Bir Chilarai as an enduring symbol of Assam’s valour and pride. He expressed hope that the newly unveiled statue would inspire future generations to learn about the legendary military leader’s remarkable legacy.
The Finance Minister also said Chilarai Bhawan would serve as a centre for the social, literary and community activities of the Koch-Rajbongshi community, helping strengthen cultural and social engagement in the region.
The programme, held at Patiladaha, was attended by local leaders, community representatives and residents.
