Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 26 said the death toll from the ongoing floods in the state has risen to 66, including one fatality reported from Guwahati Urban.
Speaking about the flood situation and ongoing relief efforts, the Chief Minister appealed to BJP workers across Assam to actively participate in assisting flood-affected communities.
Sarma announced that the Assam BJP has launched a ₹12-crore relief initiative under which 2 lakh Mekhela-Chadors will be distributed to flood-affected women and clothing will be provided to 2 lakh children across the state.
He urged party workers and supporters wishing to contribute less than ₹2,000 to hand over their donations to their respective local MLAs. Those contributing more than ₹2,000, he said, can deposit the amount directly into the party’s designated bank account, the details of which will be shared through social media.
The Chief Minister added that BJP workers from Assam and other parts of the country have assured support for the initiative. He expressed confidence that the party would raise the targeted ₹12 crore within the next four to five days, enabling relief materials to reach flood-affected families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat and Jorhat districts.
