The flood situation in Assam remained critical on July 28, with the death toll climbing to 75 after seven more flood-related deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
All seven fatalities were reported from Sivasagar district, which continues to be one of the worst-affected regions in the state.
The ASDMA said floods are currently affecting seven districts—Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup (Metropolitan). Although the number of affected districts has declined compared to previous assessments, floodwaters continue to disrupt normal life across several parts of Assam.
According to official data, 3,32,639 people have been affected, with 622 villages remaining inundated across 21 revenue circles. Large numbers of residents continue to face submerged homes, disrupted livelihoods and damage to essential infrastructure and community assets.
The authority stated that no incidents of urban flooding have been reported anywhere in the state.
The floods have also caused extensive damage to the agricultural sector, with nearly 45,341.98 hectares of cropland submerged. The losses have further compounded the difficulties faced by farmers already struggling with prolonged waterlogging during the monsoon season.
District administrations are continuing rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations across the affected areas. Authorities said the flood situation is being closely monitored, while efforts to provide relief, restore essential services and assist affected communities remain underway.
