The flood situation in Assam deteriorated further on July 15, with the death toll increasing to four and the number of people affected by the deluge rising nearly fourfold to more than 37,000, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The latest flood-related death was reported from the Chariduar Revenue Circle in Sonitpur district. According to the ASDMA, the victim had gone missing on the night of July 13, and the body was recovered a day later on July 14.
The latest assessment by the disaster management authority indicates a significant increase in the number of people impacted as floodwaters continue to inundate several parts of the state.
Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, while relief and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas to assist those impacted by the floods.
