Assam Finance, Environment and Forest, and Mines and Minerals Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has announced disciplinary measures against officials posted in the Hajo Forest Range following allegations of illegal collection of money and other irregularities.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Baruah said the state government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, maintains a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and misconduct within the administration.
According to the minister, Range Forest Officer Pranjal Barman has been transferred, while Forester Imtiaz Ahmed has been suspended pending further proceedings. He said the action was initiated immediately after the allegations concerning the Hajo Forest Range came to the attention of the government.
Baruah asserted that no official is above the law and warned that strict measures would be taken against anyone found abusing authority, encouraging illegal activities or engaging in corrupt practices, irrespective of rank or position.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to clean governance, the minister said transparency, accountability and the protection of Assam’s forests and natural resources remain key priorities of the administration.
He added that the state government remains firmly committed to ensuring integrity within the system while safeguarding the state’s environmental resources.
