Assam Government Pushes GST Compliance, Fair Taxation in Meeting with Contractors

Guwahati, July 5: Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said the state government is working to strengthen Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance and promote fair taxation as part of its efforts to improve transparency and accountability in public financial management.

In a post shared on X on July 4, Baruah said he attended a GST-related meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The meeting was attended by contractors empanelled with various departments of the Government of Assam.

The discussions centred on improving GST compliance, preventing tax evasion and enhancing transparency in government contracts and financial transactions. The government also reviewed measures aimed at ensuring greater accountability in the execution of public projects.

Highlighting the importance of an efficient tax system, Baruah said fair taxation plays a crucial role in building a stronger economy. He added that every rupee collected through taxes contributes to the development and prosperity of Assam.

The meeting also reaffirmed the Assam government’s commitment to strengthening tax compliance, improving revenue collection and ensuring transparent financial practices across departments.
