Assam Government to Develop Zubeen Garg Samadhi Khetra at Sonapur Under Expert Committee

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Samadhi Khetra of late singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg at Sonapur will be developed under the supervision of a government-approved committee. The decision follows the successful completion of the singer’s final rites and cremation, which were conducted with full consensus from all parties involved.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has been entrusted with preparing the initial blueprint for the memorial project. A specially constituted committee will oversee the planning process and provide recommendations to the government before final approval is granted.

The committee comprises prominent personalities, including Garima Saikia Garg, Palmee Borthakur, Semanta Gautam, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Biren Singha, Anuradha Sharma Pujari, Pranjal Saikia, Pulak Banerjee, Dulal Manki, and Tarali Sarma. Sudarshan Thakur, Joint Secretary of Sankardev Kalakhetra, has been appointed as the head of the committee.

The Assam government has assured that it will carefully review and approve the committee’s suggestions in the coming months, aiming to create a memorial that honours Zubeen Garg’s enduring legacy and the profound respect he continues to inspire among his fans and followers.
