Assam Governor Clears Expansion of Bodoland Territorial Council Executive to 17 Members Under Hagrama Mohilary

Guwahati, March 4: The Governor of Assam has sanctioned the expansion of the Executive Council of the Bodoland Territorial Council, increasing its strength from 14 to 17 members under the leadership of Hagrama Mohilary.

An official communication issued by the Governor’s Secretariat, Assam (No. GSA.160/2025/92 dated March 3, 2026), stated that the approval was granted in response to a formal request submitted by Mohilary through his letter dated February 27, 2026. The move formalises the induction of three additional Members of Council into the executive body.

The newly appointed Executive Members include Maheswar Basumatary, representing the 30 Goreswar ST Constituency; Lakhi Das from the 27 Nagrjuli Non-ST Constituency; and Karmeshwar Roy, a government-nominated member. With their inclusion, the Executive Council’s total strength has officially risen to 17.

The Governor has further approved the administration of the Oath of Office and Secrecy to the three members on either March 6 or 7, 2026, at Kokrajhar, in accordance with prescribed procedures. Shri Mukesh Chandra Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam and currently holding charge as Principal Secretary to BTC, has been designated to administer the oath.

The communication, issued by Bidit Das, ACS, Additional Secretary to the Government of Assam, has been circulated to the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, the Chief Minister’s Office and the Welfare of Bodoland Department for necessary action.

The expansion represents a notable administrative step in the Mohilary-led council, strengthening the executive framework of the BTC ahead of upcoming governance priorities in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
