Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Saturday attended the valedictory function of the Janajati Sammelan along with the 30th foundation day celebration of the Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) at Assam Royal Global University. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said the occasion was significant as it brought together people from diverse sections of society and marked the culmination of the Tribal Conference organised on the theme “Development through Culture.” He stressed that the holistic development of tribal communities must balance material progress with cultural values, social responsibility and spiritual growth.
Highlighting India’s unity in diversity, Acharya described tribal communities as the custodians of the nation’s ancient traditions and sustainable lifestyles rooted in harmony with nature. Their deep respect for forests and land, he said, offers valuable lessons for environmentally balanced development. He also recalled the contributions of tribal icons such as Birsa Munda, Tilka Manjhi and Rani Durgavati, whose ideals continue to inspire the nation. The Governor noted that the Janajati Sammelan provided an important platform for dialogue on education, health, livelihoods, cultural preservation and the responsible use of modern technology. He emphasised that development must strengthen tribal identity, language and self-respect to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth.
