Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, July 27, said the state government had identified 13 alleged infiltrators and initiated legal proceedings against them as part of its ongoing drive against illegal immigration. He did not disclose where the individuals had been detected.
In a post on X, Sarma said the government’s “Detect, Delete, Deport” mechanism was continuing to safeguard the interests of Assam.
The Chief Minister said 13 individuals had been identified and that appropriate legal action had been initiated against them in accordance with the law.
He added that the state government would continue to act firmly against those it considered detrimental to Assam’s security.
The statement came days after the Assam Government informed the Legislative Assembly that nearly 2,100 illegal foreigners had been deported, expelled or pushed back from the state over the past 10 years. According to the government, 2,023 of those individuals were from Bangladesh.
