Assam Launches Food Security Scheme to Provide Essential Commodities at Subsidised Rates

Guwahati: The Assam government launched its Food Security Scheme to provide essential commodities at highly subsidised rates to beneficiaries across the state.

Under the initiative, families covered under the National Food Security Act will receive lentils (masoor dal) at ₹69 per kg, sugar at ₹38 per kg, and salt at ₹10 per kg through fair-price shops.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who attended the launch event as the chief guest, said the scheme aims to ease financial pressure on economically weaker families while improving nutritional access.

The government stated that the initiative will strengthen food distribution networks and ensure that essential goods reach every eligible household at affordable prices.
