IMPHAL, Aug 1: A 42-year-old man from Assam was arrested after police allegedly seized 5.21 kg of suspected brown sugar from a vehicle in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Bhima Panika of Panika Basti in Karbi Anglong district, was apprehended during a vehicle checking operation at Leingangpokpi under Jiribam Police Station near the Assam-Manipur border adjoining Cachar district.

The accused was taken into custody, while the vehicle allegedly used to transport the contraband was seized.
A case has been registered, and an investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the suspected brown sugar and its intended destination. Police are also examining whether the accused had links to a wider drug trafficking network.
