Assam Mourns the Passing of Renowned Flutist Dipak Sarma

Guwahati: The mortal remains of acclaimed Assamese flutist Dipak Sarma, who passed away in Chennai on Monday morning, were brought to Guwahati on November 3 aboard a special chartered flight.

The flight carrying the late musician’s body departed Chennai around 5 am and reached Guwahati shortly after. Upon arrival, his remains were taken to his Ambikagiri Nagar residence, where family members and close associates performed traditional rituals.

From 10 am to 2 pm, his body will be kept at Seuj Sangha, providing an opportunity for fans, cultural organisations, and admirers to pay their last respects to the maestro who enriched Assam’s musical heritage with his soulful flute performances.

Following the public homage, his mortal remains will be taken to Navagraha crematorium for the final rites.

Dipak Sarma, aged 57, succumbed to a rare liver ailment while undergoing treatment at a Chennai hospital, where he had been admitted for several weeks. He was initially hospitalised in Guwahati before being airlifted for advanced medical care.
