Assam Pays Heartfelt Tribute as Zubeen Garg’s First Birthday After His Passing Is Marked With Emotion

The first birthday of iconic Assamese singer and cultural luminary Zubeen Garg after his passing was observed in an atmosphere filled with grief, love, and deep remembrance. As the clock struck midnight, a large crowd gathered outside his residence in Kahilipara, where family members, friends, and devoted fans united to honour the artist who would have turned 53.

Hundreds of admirers converged at the spot, participating in a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony and paying homage through songs, sketches, and artworks sent from across Assam and even from Kolkata. Emotions surged when Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, stepped out to meet the gathering and share a moment of remembrance with them.

Music shaped the night as fans sang some of Zubeen’s most beloved compositions. Artists Manas Robin and Ajay Phukan also arrived to offer their respects and joined in cutting the tribute cake. Manas Robin announced that a new dedication song titled “Amar Zubeen, Pran’r Zubeen” would be released as a birthday offering. Guitar-shaped cakes brought in by fans served as a creative reminder of Zubeen’s musical brilliance. The heartfelt celebration continued with the release of sky lanterns, casting a warm glow across the night sky.

The commemorations were set to carry into the morning, with a statue of the late singer scheduled to be unveiled at 9 am by Garima Saikia Garg alongside Zubeen’s father. A full day of remembrance events has been planned, blending cultural performances with acts of social responsibility.

In Sonapur Dimoria, residents organised several activities to honour their cherished artist, including a blood donation camp, the planting of 100 Nahor saplings, Naam-Kirtan, Bhaona presentations, and other cultural programmes. A Bhagavat recital was also planned at the Kahilipara residence, adding a spiritual element to the day’s observances.

Adding to the philanthropic spirit, Manas Robin announced a contribution of ₹10,000 for personnel stationed at Zubeen’s memorial site.

Zubeen Garg’s first birthday in his absence unfolded as a powerful blend of sorrow and celebration, reaffirming the enduring influence of a legend whose music and legacy continue to resonate across Assam and far beyond.
