Guwahati, August 1: Assam Police have apprehended 14 alleged infiltrators, with legal action initiated against them as part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on July 31.
In a post on X, Sarma said the police had foiled attempts by suspected infiltrators to enter or remain in the state and reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining strict vigilance.
“Each day, while infiltrators try to execute their nefarious designs in Assam, we keep on thwarting their plans and taking action against them. Fourteen such infiltrators have been apprehended by Assam Police, and appropriate action has been taken against them. Assam remains alert,” the chief minister said.
Sarma, however, did not disclose the identities of those apprehended, the locations where the operations were conducted or the specific action taken against them.
The latest development comes as the Assam government continues its campaign against illegal immigration and suspected foreign nationals.
The state government had recently informed the Assam Legislative Assembly that nearly 2,100 illegal foreigners had been deported, expelled or pushed back from Assam over the past decade. According to the government, 2,023 of them were Bangladeshi nationals.
