Guwahati, March 8: A suspected drug peddler was arrested and a large quantity of narcotic tablets seized during a late-night anti-drug operation in Goalpara district of Assam, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, police carried out a raid in Dharai village under Jaleswar in the Lakhipur Police Station area on March 7.
The operation was led by Abhilash Baruah, West Goalpara CDSP, along with the newly appointed officer-in-charge of Lakhipur Police Station, Jibon Daimari. Personnel from the Jaleswar police outpost and Dhumergat police also participated in the raid.
During the operation, the police team seized 2,888 narcotic tablets and impounded a motorcycle that was allegedly being used to transport the contraband.
The accused has been identified as Nizam Uddin, a resident of Udmari village under Jaleswar.
Police said the arrested individual is currently being interrogated as part of the investigation. Officials are also trying to determine whether other people may be linked to the suspected drug trafficking network.
