A joint operation by Assam Police and the Assam Rifles led to the seizure of narcotics valued at an estimated Rs 28 crore in Cachar district, with three suspected drug traffickers arrested, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Sharing details of the operation in a social media post on Tuesday night, the Chief Minister said the joint team recovered 1.1 lakh Yaba tablets and 223 grams of heroin during the crackdown.
Sarma said the successful operation reflected the state’s continued resolve to act firmly against organised drug trafficking. He stated that the narcotics haul dealt another major blow to drug syndicates operating in the region and reaffirmed that the law would continue to take its course against those involved in the illegal trade.
The three suspected traffickers were taken into custody during the operation, while the recovered contraband was seized for further investigation.
Yaba, commonly known as “crazy medicine” in Thailand, is a tablet that contains a combination of methamphetamine, a highly addictive stimulant, and caffeine.
Investigators are now working to trace the origin of the seized narcotics, determine their intended destination and identify possible links with larger drug trafficking networks operating across the region.
