Assam Police Search Pawan Khera’s Delhi Residence, Seize Devices in Passport Row Probe

Guwahati, April 7: An Assam Police team on April 7 conducted a search at the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera in connection with a case linked to allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Debojit Nath confirmed that Khera was not present at his residence at the time of the visit. He stated that a search was carried out and electronic devices were seized as part of the operation.

Police said certain “incriminating material” was recovered during the search, but declined to disclose details citing the ongoing investigation. The case has been registered at the Crime Branch Police Station in Guwahati, and efforts are under way to trace Khera, whose current whereabouts remain unknown.

Officials added that the Assam Police team followed due procedure by informing the Delhi Police, which subsequently assisted in the search operation.

The development comes amid an intensifying political row after Khera alleged that Sarma’s wife possessed multiple passports and that details of her assets were not disclosed in election affidavits. The Chief Minister has rejected the claims, accusing the Congress of using fabricated material allegedly sourced from foreign social media platforms to defame his family.

An FIR has been registered against Khera following a complaint over his statements, police said, as the matter continues to unfold ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.
