Assam Police Seize 23,000 Yaba Tablets in Cachar, Arrest One

Assam Police seized 23,000 suspected Yaba tablets and arrested one person during an anti-narcotics operation in Cachar district on September 8, officials said.

Acting on specific source information, Cachar district police intercepted a truck at Shivpur under Lakhipur Police Station and searched the vehicle. The suspected contraband was allegedly concealed in a specially constructed secret chamber.

Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das said the search led to the recovery of 23,000 suspected Yaba tablets weighing approximately 25 kg and containing methamphetamine.

Police identified the arrested person as Sahir Hussain Choudhary, a resident of Gobindapur Part-II in Cachar district. Legal proceedings were initiated against him.

Investigators were examining the source and intended destination of the consignment and probing its suspected forward and backward linkages to identify others allegedly involved in its transportation and distribution.

Further investigation was underway.
