Assam Police Seize 8,000 Suspected Narcotic Tablets, Arrest Alleged Drug Peddler in Jogighopa

Guwahati, May 13: Assam Police arrested an alleged drug peddler from Jogighopa in Bongaigaon district and seized a large quantity of suspected narcotic tablets from his possession during a targeted operation.

The accused has been identified as Afzal Hussain, a resident of Kabaitari in Jogighopa.

According to police, the operation was conducted by a team from Jogighopa Police Station under the leadership of police officer Pulak Barman. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police intercepted the accused on the four-lane national highway while he was allegedly transporting the contraband.

During the search operation, police recovered around 8,000 suspected intoxicant tablets from his possession. Authorities also seized a mobile phone and a motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the substances.

Police suspect that the accused was involved in illegal trafficking of narcotic substances in the region.

A case has been registered in connection with the seizure, and further investigation is underway to ascertain possible links to a wider drug trafficking network, officials said.
