Assam Police carried out three consecutive anti-narcotics operations, intercepting illegal substances valued at nearly ₹3.5 crore, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on 21 November. The coordinated raids marked another major push in the state’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
In the first operation, officers seized 255.641 kg of ganja estimated to be worth ₹1.2 crore. This was followed by the recovery of 1.985 kg of morphine valued at around ₹1.9 crore. Police also confiscated 9.44 kg of opium worth approximately ₹47.5 lakh, bringing the total seizure value to about ₹3.5 crore. One person was arrested in connection with the case.
Sarma praised the relentless efforts of the police force, posting “Try. Fail. Repeat,” on social media platform X. He described the state police as “Assam’s real-life Avengers,” commending their perseverance in dismantling narcotics networks.
The latest round of seizures is seen as a major setback for drug trafficking groups active in the region. Assam has intensified its campaign against illegal substances in recent months, focusing on key transit corridors commonly used by traffickers. Police have not disclosed the locations of the raids or the identity of the arrested suspect as investigations continue to trace the wider supply chain.
