Guwahati: The Assam Police will issue fresh summons to seven members of the Assam Association Singapore in connection with the mysterious death of singer-actor Zubeen Garg, after they failed to appear before the investigating agency within the stipulated deadline, a senior officer said on Wednesday.
CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta informed that out of the eight Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) earlier served notices, only Rupkamal Kalita has appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning. The remaining seven failed to respond by the October 6 deadline.
“We will issue fresh summons to all who have not appeared yet and proceed as per legal procedures,” Gupta said, addressing reporters in Guwahati. He added that Kalita has been under interrogation for over 24 hours at the CID headquarters.

“We are in touch with the NRIs concerned. Since they are based abroad, certain legal frameworks are involved, and we are communicating through proper diplomatic channels. We expect them to cooperate and join the investigation soon,” he added.
Commenting on the arrest of DSP Sandipan Garg earlier on Wednesday, Gupta stated, “He has been arrested, and the investigation is underway. Beyond that, I cannot disclose further details.”
Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons, died in Singapore on September 19 while swimming in the sea. He was in the country to attend the 4th North East India Festival. A yacht had reportedly been booked by a few members of the Assam Association Singapore, who were present when the tragic incident occurred.

The SIT, probing the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death, has intensified its investigation and is expected to question more individuals linked to the association in the coming days.
