Assam Pushes Concert Tourism as Post Malone Show Marks Beginning of Global Entertainment Drive

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 9 December laid out the State’s vision to transform Assam into a major hub for global live entertainment, stressing that the recent Post Malone concert is part of a broader strategy to promote Concert Tourism rather than an isolated event. The Chief Minister said the initiative is aimed at driving sustained economic growth by attracting top international performers and creating new opportunities across sectors.

The State Cabinet had earlier approved Assam’s Policy for Concert Tourism on 21 May 2025, setting the foundation for streamlined permissions, world-class venues and advanced audio-visual infrastructure to support large-scale events. Officials noted that a structured roadmap is already in motion, designed to ensure smooth execution, enhanced crowd management and robust security measures for high-profile shows.

Linking the success of Post Malone’s performance to the government’s long-term tourism ambitions, Sarma said the hospitality and travel sectors will witness significant and recurring benefits. Hotels, tour operators, restaurants and local vendors are already gearing up for increased demand around major concerts. The government also expects a growing number of visitors—both domestic and international—to explore destinations beyond Guwahati, giving a boost to the State’s wider tourism ecosystem.

According to the government, concert-driven economic activity will extend across multiple districts, from Dispur to Dima Hasao and from Silchar to Sivasagar, contributing to infrastructure development and strengthening local markets. Transport providers, food suppliers and equipment vendors are among those anticipated to gain directly as large events generate steady business opportunities.

Officials further highlighted that enhanced economic activity will translate into greater revenue for the State exchequer, enabling more investment in public welfare programmes. With the Northeast emerging as a rising tourism hotspot, the government believes that regular international concerts will help give the region a distinctive cultural and economic identity.

Calling Post Malone’s show “a beginning, not a one-off affair,” the Chief Minister reaffirmed that Assam’s concert initiative aims to establish the State as a preferred destination for live events and festivals. The government hopes the policy will unlock new income channels for local communities while propelling Assam towards a vibrant, tourism-led economy.
