Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, September 25, announced that the monthly payout under the state’s Orunodoi scheme would be increased to Rs 1,500 in October as a special Durga Puja payment. The decision was approved by the state Cabinet on Thursday.
In a post on X, Sarma said the enhanced assistance was being provided on the occasion of Durga Puja to support families with their festive preparations.
“On the sacred occasion of Durga Puja, a special gift for the women of Assam. In October, the Orunodoi amount will be increased to Rs 1,500,” he said.
He said the additional assistance was an effort to share in the “joys of our families and their festive preparations” and wished people on the occasion of Durga Puja.
The October payment will be Rs 250 higher than the regular Rs 1,250 assistance under the scheme. The Orunodoi programme provides monthly financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries through direct benefit transfers.
The announcement came ahead of Durga Puja, one of the major festivals celebrated across Assam.
